Hey everyone. I've been doing O for awhile now and am getting good results but I'm a man who's 6feet 3inches and like most men out there all my weight is around my stomach, chest and back area. Oh, and I weigh 335 lbs. I was just wondering if anyone could tell me if the Abs workout DVD helps to really shrink up the stomach and chest area faster and if the more advanced levels help as well. I'm not worried about the positions of the advanced levels, just the speed of success versus the level 1 workout. Even for someone at my weight, I don't look it b/c I'm a very fit person who has always worked out. When I find the time, I like to squeeze in an hour of Power Yoga just to calm my nerves along with my O workout. But, anyway, getting long winded-save it for the workout. I just wanted some opinions or even some advice on what I could do to help shrink up my stomach, chest and love handles

Hi Jonathan! Welcome to the message board!
Others might disagree with me, but I'm not sure the Ab&UB workout would really speed things up. I think ALL the workouts done consistently and with gusto are equally effective. I don't really believe in "spot reducing". Now, that said.... I've always loved the Ab&UB video and feel it offers a nice variety of positions that stretch and work the upper body. What do the rest of you think?? Btw... come post with us in the D2L (determined to lose) thread each day, Jonathan! |

I'm not wild about the abs/thigh workouts; I find many of the positions duplicates of what's already covered in levels 1-4, which target all areas effectively. I think simply rotating levels 1-4 works just fine.
That said, I do look forward to some updated workouts--I've been utilizing the power breath on some of the positions, and it really does intensify things a bit... Helene |

my opinion---even though you really can't "spot reduce", I have found that targeting the muscles in those areas for the whole workout(abs and upper body, buns n thighs) tightens them up even more than in the all over work outs. So those areas look tighter, even though the fat loss is the same all over. I love the targeted dvds! I usually do one day of a level, then abs and UB another day, then buns-n-thighs, and rotate that way.

I do 2 O! workouts a day,,back to back. I sometimes lay on the floor on my back and just do the breath with gusto squeezing my entire body at once. I started doing that when I was bedridden in hospital for 9 weeks (blood clot in my lung) and I could not as much as touch the side of my bed - I was surrounded by pillows. Anyhow I did that twice a day mostly, sometimes 4x a day to ease the boredom and it worked just great! I didn't gain a pound and I was toned from top to bottom! lol
That is my long winded way of saying it works no matter what as long as you do the breathing with gusto .. and I do mean gusto. The breath is the important thing IMHO and as I understand, the opinion of Jill which is the important one! I have all the tapes and I rotate them so I wont't get bored. Each of them is special and I like them all. I had so much oxygen in that hospital stay my resting pulse was Super low and so was my blood pressure. I ate my usual healthy diet and didn't gain a lb in 9 weeks - that is saying a LOT. I know the day they discharged me from my blood clot, my jeans were a bit loose as they were the day I went in and I had a tumor in my abdomen to boot which took up room that was not there the day of my admission. ( They operated 4 days later and took it out in case you were wondering! lol) So breathe away and squeeze those muscles Jonathon..this works! And by the way welcome to the site!! Join us in Determined to Lose everyday and post your successes and not - so - successes. Just click on to the last posting as there is usually someone who is an early bird and gets us started off on the right foot ( it is never me! ). cheers! Nancy d |
