My computer keeps kicking me off - we'll see if I can finish this!

The May, 2004 Good Housekeeping has an article about Bob Greene the author who has worked with Oprah on fitness. I'm sure many of you get the magazine so I'll try not to be redundant but there are a few things I did want to mention.

Most of us seem to be at ages where we know first hand that slimming down gets harder as we age. I'll be 53 this fall so I'm at a point where I need to do it NOW! Some things that encouraged me: Story about a 40 year old who lost 155 lbs - it took 7 years but she did it. Another story about a 63 (yes, six-three) who lost 105 lbs in just over a year; a person who lost 93 lbs in 18 months.

I haven't read every word of the article but I'm very eager to share this with you. The point that hit me is these ladies found what worked for them & stuck to it to reach their goals.

Other things I want to share are his topics - 1)It's not about the food - at first (for all of us emotional eaters)2) Get moving - or in our cases KOB! 3) You are what you eat 4)EXPECT SETBACKS - DON'T EMBRACE THEM

Also - dieting affects fat burning but not the way we'd like since it can slow metablolism.

Metabolism & genetics - genes dictate about 40% - the rest is up to us!

People are way too aggressive with their diets way to fast!

I don't mean to sound 'preachy' but I have not kept my O! committment to myself & this jarred me loose so maybe some others will find it helpful. From reading posts I KNOW that O! will work but I need to actually do it.

Bob Greene's web site is getwiththeprogram.org -I briefly went in for a peek & noticed that there is a chart to estimate your BMI, overall heath risk, body fat %, target heart rate & optimal weight.

Hope this was helpful to someone. Good luck to all and KOB!!

Hi, yes I read it too! He really lays it out clearly, doesn't he? I thought it was a little unusual that he suggested not doing weight bearing exercise right away, since added muscle increases weight--so as not to discourage the person trying to lose. Since I knew I might gain at first, I didn't get discouraged. Anyway, it is a great article.
