Posie, I don't know what effect this may have on neuropathy (is it "permanent"?), but I know of some experts that swear that diabetes can be "cured" in the sense that it can be controlled by diet and exercise to such an extent that its symptoms may go into complete regression/become non-existent (this is assuming you have Type II and not Type I).
Many diabetics do not realize that foods like breads, grains, dairy, and potatoes have a tremendous negative effect on their disease. (I've heard from more than one source that the Food Pyramid--if followed--can give a person diabetes!) Check out www.mercola.com and type in diabetes in the search window at the top right (the doctor has over 15,000 research documents on almost every subject imaginable). Also, you may check into www.iknowthecause.com. Lots of interesting/controversial information about diabetes in this man's book The Fungus Link (by Doug Kaufmann). (Refer to the Symptoms Questionnaire from menu at left.) You have no idea how much diet has to do with it! (Chromium Picolinate is also said to be very good for diabetics--helping their bodies to properly process insulin, and it helps many with sugar cravings). Hope this may lead you to some useful information. My husband has (Type II) diabetes and I "threw away" the eating plan one of the doctors gave him (which included plenty of bread, potatoes, fruit, etc. ?!?!? Again, if you have Type I diabetes, it does throw a hook in things, but otherwise, hope this may help in some way. Katherine |

Thank you Katherine for your response. I am type II and have followed the Atkins plan. I just found out last week that on top of that, my thyroid is not functioning--I'm hypothyroid. You gave some very good websites to look at. Thank you again.
