I was wondering if you could get the same benefit or any benefit from breathing out of the nose instead of the mouth?. The reason I ask is sometimes I am in semi-public places and feel like just doing the breathing, but don't want to make it too obvious by having to do the obvious oxycise exhale. Would I be getting the same benefit (or somewhat beneficial) from breathing out of my nose as with breathing out of my mouth?.
My understanding is that the absolute most important part of the oxycise breath is making sure you use your diaphragm, secondly that you relax your stomach at the start and tighten it after the initial inhale. You will get plenty of benefit just from doing that. I have even heard of people that couldn't breathe through their noses being advised to do both parts of the breath through their mouth, and I'm sure the same would be true of the nose! I haven't actively studied the Oxycise! system lately 'cause I do it from habit, but I didn't want you to have to wait too long for an answer.

Convenience seems to be the key to staying with exercise (for me anyways) and if I can get any extra breaths in just doing everyday things then that's an added benefit!
I've read so much about breathing and the main thing is getting air in and out--whether through the mouth or nose. I myself have always been a bit blocked sinus-wise and often breathing both in and out through my mouth. But the main thing is air moving in and out. Do what feels best.

Mickey, Jill says on her Easy Does It instructional video that the reason you're encouraged to breathe through your mouth is for the power of the exhale. Clearly, in public, you're not likely to be in the checkout lane and suddenly blow a blast of air on the back of the person in front of you. Many websites that I've visited regarding deep-breathing even suggest inhaling and exhaling through the nostrils, so you're certainly not going to hurt yourself. Any deep breathing--even done very slowly and methodically--has positive health benefits, so KOBTYN!
