Did you ladies see this article? I thought it was interesting and funny! Big Grin

At a recent class in Manhattan's wealthy Upper East Side, yoga instructor Annelise Hagen teaches several facial exercises designed to stretch and tone facial muscles.
A group of women practice moves including The Lion, showing the tongue hanging out and eyes rolled up. Hagen encourages class members to hold the position for 60 seconds, joking: You can do this any time. It really helps you get a seat on the train.
Hagen recently released a book, The Yoga Face: Eliminate Wrinkles with the Ultimate Natural Facelift. She said she developed a workshop using facial yoga because women wanted to look their best, but they weren't really thinking about how to exercise their facial muscles.
She said facial muscles become weak and flabby and need regular workouts and circulation to reduce wrinkles.
Besides The Lion, other exercises include Satchmo, in which the cheeks are blown out Louis Armstrong-style, and Marilyn, in which glamorous kisses are blown to strengthen mouth muscles for full and firm lips.
It uses the same principles of exercise you would use for any other parts of your body, Hagen said. Facial muscles also become more toned, so it is a natural way of getting a lift.

How 'bout it???

Funny Susanna when I used to attend Elaine Powers about 20-30 years ago we used to have exercises similar to that for our facial muscles they would have us do.

Just saw this post and I agree but I believe that doing O takes care of the face too. Because that was the first place my hubby noticed change, my face was more firm and less wrinkles around the mouth and neck!

Same here! "O" works the face and neck quite well.

Until next time...

I agree, also, as I have noticed a firming of my face, especially in the lower cheek and jaw area. And I have lost 3/4" off my neck........yes, that's one of the places I measure weekly Big Grin

Thanks for your replies, ladies! I just hadn't heard of such a thing, so it struck me funny. I'll have to admit that I feel like my face has more lines from doing O than it did before. I'm not sure if it's because I forget to hold my lips flat enough on the exhale or why, but it's not bad enough to make me stop Oing!

Georg! I'm glad you're still around! How's it going?

I got a kick out of this post...it reminds me of the "Facercise" program by Carole Maggio. I never did it, but got the book, and it really seems to make a difference to those who do it. One of the prettiest older ladies I know swears by it (she says you really need to get the video).

BTW, I have definitely seen differences due to doing Oxy in my face and jawline, especially the neck area. Remember how Alex mentioned she was getting a "buff" neck? That is me for sure...I recently saw a pre-Oxy picture of me, and there is a world of difference.

One more thing...Susanna, I think keeping your lips flat makes a huge difference...seems to me I started seeing some lines at first and I paid more attention to how I was holding my face, and it made a difference.

I've been wondering if, when doing the exercises, if we are to still smile real big? The later videos don't say anything about that nor do the people do it...that I can tell.

Hi Catherine...welcome to the message board!

It's my understanding that we're always supposed to smile during the inhale. It seems like Jill says that helps open the nasal passages wider and increase the air intake. Does anyone else remember that?

Come post with us in the D2L (determined to lose) thread each day. The more the merrier!

Welcome from me, too, Catherine! I only have Jill's book, but she really stresses the smile there. I think it's important, and it makes you feel good to smile anyway, so why not do it??? Big Grin Honestly, I've read articles that say that just the act of smiling helps us feel better. I'm not trying to be a smarty pants! LOL
