Hey all,

I have two degenerating disks in my lower back that have caused me almost daily pain for the past 10+ yrs. I take prescription pain relievers daily. Some days are much better; especially if I stay away from all grains, beans, legumes and dairy.

About 5 days ago my back flared up again and even though I stopped using the eliptical machine at the gym and have tried to rest it - it is not improving. Even with pain meds, it burns all the time. I've honestly been afraid to start Oxycising! again because when I try to lift and tighten it hurts more. I just received my new tapes and I'm bummed out!

Should I simply wait until I see a back specialist in Seattle or try Easy Does It - Level 1 for five minutes at a time? Has anyone else had a similar problem? I hate being spooked to exercise...I want to be strong and as healthy as I can be!

in His grace,
jody v.

Hi, Jody! Jill has said not to do anything that hurts. Maybe you could try the breaths without the lifting and tightening--and or do it very very gently. Just do whatever makes you feel the most comfortable, and maybe later when you are stronger, you can slowly increase intensity.

Hi Jody,

I just had to put my two cents worth in because I also have two degenerating disks in my lower back that have caused me much pain through the years. When it "goes out", I won't be able to move for days.

Have you gone to a chiropractor? Mine has helped relieve pressure I get and also the pain whether it's the burning type or the sharp type. I have to wait until things have calmed down before I get adjusted though. But when I do get adjusted, wow does it help. I'll always have the back problems but the oxycise program has helped strengthen my lower back.

For now Jody, the only thing I would suggest is to lay on your back on the floor and practise doing the breathing that way. Don't do any stretches until you feel your able to. You'll know, just listen to your body.

I hope that helps you Jody. Smile
Until next time...

Thank-you both for your advice!

I want so badly to get started...I get frustrated with the pain and having to wait longer to see the inches come off! Oh well, "This too shall pass."

I will call him on Monday. I haven't seen him for about eight years. He is a physiatrist, which means he specializes in rehabilatation and is very caring. He also works with a team including a orthopedic surgeon, and pain specialist. He may do a new MRI and possibly an injection into the disk space.

Say a prayer that it is a quick recovery!

Thanks again,
jody v.
