Maybe I'm being way too technical, but I'll ask anyway. The one study showed that Oxycise! burned 140% more calories than peddling a stationary bike with no load. That would be a light to moderate pace.
Was the stationary bike peddled for the same duration as the Oxycise! workout (15 minutes) or for some other, more typical workout duration (say, 30 minutes)? I went to a calorie burning calculator website and discovered that if I peddled a bike for 15 minutes, I would have burned between 91 and 136 calories. That's at a light or moderate pace. 140% of 91 is 218; 140% of 136 is 326. So, does that mean I burn between 218 and 326 calories each time I do a 15 minute workout? If that's the case, that's simply amazing! That means that if I do the 15 minute workout or the commuter workout twice a day, which is what I'm trying to do, then I burn as many calories as I would doing the Walk off the Pounds 4-mile express workout. Let's see, walk hard and sweat or breath hard and not sweat and not be dead tired afterwards, not to mention that I have time afterwards for a life, thank you very much! If I'm way off in my understanding of the caloric expenditure of Oxycise!, I hope someone will point it out. Because I like these numbers, but I would like accuracy even more. Thank you. E |

E,
I don't know about how they figured the caloric expenditure for oxycise, but I know the 91 - 136 calories mentioned burned for riding the ex. bike is really just a guideline. An estimate, actually. To truly know what you specifically are burning there is some sort of formula used with your resting heart rate, your age, and a few other things I don't remember. So, I wouldn't take those numbers as gospel. I would more likely think that for whatever you burn riding a bike (be it 80 calories or 175), you would be burning 140% more than that doing oxycise. However, I too would like to know more specifics that you mentioned such as duration and intensity. Good questions! Anybody??? Rejoice in the hope. Endure under tribulation. Persevere in prayer...Romans 12:12 |

Hi "E" and Ellie Mae,
Page 66 of the book "Oxycise!" says that the two exercises (Oxycise! and the stationary bike)were compared on a "per breath basis" as follows: Oxycise! compared to riding a stationary bike at 48% capacity: Oxycise! produced 52.5% higher VO2/kg and 52% more calories burned. When Oxycise! was compared to riding the stationary bike at 75% capacity, Oxycise! produced 12% higher VO2/kg and 14% more calories burned. I managed to catch up with Jill for a few comments: "Her principles are basically correct, however, it is essential that Oxycise! be done with lots and lots of gusto in order to achieve the higher calorie burn and all the other wonderful benefits. And yes, it is wonderful!" Jill didn't mention the amount of time on the bike vs. time spent doing Oxycise!... however, on page 67 of her book "Oxycise!" she has written: "You should note that in order for bicycling to utilize this much oxygen or burn this amount of calories, it is necessary to warm up first. With Oxycise! the results are immediate and can be done intermittently throughout the day without any warmup." Jill adds: "Another major difference is that everyone can do Oxycise! If you've ever tried to ride a bike at 75% capacity for an extended time, you know that it's extremely difficult and you will be left dripping with sweat. In addition, only the legs are exercised in a forward motion while the rest of the body just sits there on the hard seat." This message has been edited. Last edited by: Kirstine, |
