Hi everyone! Let me introduce myself. My name is Sandra Fisher. You can call me sandie! I am 38 years old, 5'7" tall, weigh 196 and currently wear a misses size 12. This time two years ago, I weighed 285 lbs. and wore a size 26W. I have been battling my weight for the past 20 years after having children. Before that eating, my weight, etc. was never an issure. I was a happy go lucky 135 lb girl! Well over the years I've learned a lot about diet and exercise. I've learned that watching calories a lone doesn't work well. It may if you have just a few pounds to lose and if you have a lot to lose it will work in the beginning but it's unlikely you will lose all excess weight with just calorie counting alone. Likewise, exercise alone probably won't do it either if your not watching how much you eat. It will if it is causing you to burn more then your taking in though! I have to honestly say that watching what you eat and exercising is the BEST way to get rid of unwanted weight/fat. I've found for myeself that it doesn't matter where my calories come from be it fruit, veggies, meat or snickers bars, if I take in less then I'm putting out I'll lose. I can tell you one thing. Losing weight, especially a lot of weight, isn't easy. But it's not gut wrenchingly hard either! What it does take is persistence and consistancy. probably didn't spell that right. Anyway, if you are faithful to watch how much goes into your gas tank (stomach), and you are faithful to exercise everyday, it will come off. there is no diet or exercise that will take it off with minimal effort. It takes maximum effort!!! If I don't watch what I'm eating and I oxycise once a day, I personally see no changes. Oxycise is good for you and i do so suggest it to be part of everyone's daily routine. But it's not magic! You can't just sit in a chair for 15 minutes a day and do your oxycise and then shovel a bunch of junk and / or excess fuel into your body and expect magical results! it takes effort on your part. you have to find what works for you. Play around with it. Are you oxycising once a day and not seeing the kind of results you want? Well Play around with it! Try oxycising twice and see what happens. For me personally, my magic oxycise number is 3 times daily. I do two workouts first thing in the morning and squeeze one more in sometime in the afternoon or before bed. I see great results with that and it's very doable! So play around with it and find what works for you! Just remember, as with any program you get out of it what you put into it. If you put in minimal effort into your food and exercise program, you will get minimal results. Put in maximum effort you get maximum results!

I wanted to add one more thing to my above post.....I just recently in the last month or two started doing oxycise. I lost all my weight doing very very vigerous exercise! For over a year I have been lifting weights, doing intesnse cardio, like The Firm, and Four mile walk aerobics, running on the treadmill, etc. WEll, in two weeks of Oxycise, I have achieved BETTER muscle tone and development from oxycise (using zero weights too!) then over a year of weight lifting. I'm going to add some light gloved weights to my oxycise routines soon. I will never lift another weight in my life! All my dumbells ( ranging in weight from 2 pounds to 25 pounds) are going up for sale on Ebay!

I really enjoyed reading your post Sandie. I feel the same way about weight-loss. It has always been about calories in vs. calories burned. I've never been able to see a difference with the "kind" of calories I've eaten (other than to affect my mood if I'm feeling deprived or cheated!).

I've been Oxycising regularly, but haven't been putting into it what I should. You've inspired me!

Very well put. A friend of mine said the same thing as well. She is a health nut so to speak-absolutely no refined anything!! She couldn't understand why she was still overweight and realized that portion control was so important. She was eating whole grains and lots of them and was unhappy & heavy. She is now doing O! plus walking & the Zone diet but is also a diet nut so she has been up & down in her weight.

Healthy food & moderation is really the key!

Thanks, everything you said makes sense. Wow! You went a long way (gain) and have come so far (loss). I, too, was happy go lucky with my body my whole life until I had my babies. I realize now that I didn't appreciate then what I had. I sure do now! and I will when I reach my goal. It truly is amazing how fast we firm up doing these relatively simple exercises. For me, this chat room is KEY. It keeps me focused in a way I have never been focused before. Thanks again for your thoughts.

You must be all muscle Sandra. I am 36, 5' 7" and weigh 198 and I wear a size 18. Did you lose a lot of inches from all your exercise. You prove that muscle does weigh more than fat and that it doesn't really matter how much you weigh. I ordered oxycise a few months ago and watched the tape once. It seemed so hard to do. I do bodyflex now and have been doing it since july 8 2003. i lost 13 inches in first two weeks but have not lost an inch since. I don't care if I don't lose one pound as long as I can get to your size of 12 or 10. Do you think I can lose inches with oxycise and is it easy to learn. Thanks for any advice or input to all.

Nice to meet you. I didn´t find it hard to learn how to oxycise. I did take it slow, so at first it took me 50 minutes to get through all 30 exercises, but I was patient with myself. I did body flex a few years ago, so the different type of breath took me quite a while to learn. Now I do it with ease. For me, the key was to take my time and not worry about doing it perfectly. Good luck and welcome!

Oxycise is easy to learn! I love it! As Dr. Phil says' " you either get it, or you dom't" so choose to be one of those who get it and you will transform!

Hi Sherrie.

I've been doing Bodyflex for a few months and just started Oxycise a couple weeks. I have to agree with Jennifer that is kind of an adjustment to learn a new breathing technique after you're used to one already. But even though I might be doing it wrong, I'm not too worried because I can still go back to the instructional tape every so often to try to improve. Plus, people seem to have posted having done it slightly differently and when they realized what they were supposed to be doing, they had already lost a lot of weight and inches so it still seems to work anyways.

Good luck.

Hi to Jennifer, Caroline & Sherrie
My name is Jerry and I am a 75 year young widow with a very befuddled mind at this moment.
Have seen about the body flex and it sounded pretty good, but now I am reading about oxycise, and it sounds very good. You gals seem to have had experience with both now, and I wonder if you can tell me of any differences that makes one better (I should say easier) than the other. I got the b.f. book used, but haven't studied it very thoroughly. Am hoping to find the oxycise book soon, if I go that route. I can do limited excercising - no extended walking, jumping or some of the floor excercises. I have a bad knee that makes it agony to get up off the floor without help (which I don't have). I really appreciate any helpful advice you might have.
This is my first time posting a message, so I hope I have done it right. I could'nt find and "how to" advice for doing one.
Thanks,
Jerry

So nice to meet you. It was several years ago when I tried BF. I believed Greer on TV when she said you don't have to change the way you eat at all and you'll lose weight. I did it faithfully for 8 weeks and lost nothing on the scales or measuring tape. I realize now that I may have lost some weight if I had watched my eating better. I think that the breath and the positions are a bit more complicated with BF, and you hold your breath and your throat makes wierd noises. I, personally, prefer oxycise (obviously). And I feel that Jill is a bit more open and truthful. Hope that helps!

Yep, that is a help. I will call my bookstore tomorrow and see if they have the book. I don't have a vcr so don't need the tapes.

I lost several years ago on Atkins and kkept it off for quite a while. Then I landed in the hospital with pneumonia and was skin and bones when I came home. My daughter got me groceries aimed at putting weight back on (which I really did need), but it seems I fell back in love with food - Pizza, tacos, enchiladas, hamburgers, etc.

I know that there is no magic. The only way is to change your way of eating along with whatever other method you try. It is just a matter of self control, I think.

Your input did help. It is so nice find that there is help and advice and support here.

Welcome to the Oxycise board! Allow me to put my two cent's worth in about Oxycise. You might be interested in checking out the "Easy Does It" series of Oxycise tapes. They are specifically aimed at folks who have limitations such as not being about to get on the floor, etc. I haven't seen any of the Easy Does It tapes, but I've heard folks on here speak highly of them.

As for Oxycise in general....I think it's a wonderful program with far more benefits than just weight-loss. I hope you'll give it a try and join us here on the board regularly for encouragement and friendship!

I only have Jill's book, "Oxycise", and I've lost 62 pounds in 9 months. I can't do all the positions in the book, but I just repeat the ones that work well for me until I've done 30 reps. I've read of others that also did as few as 4 different positions until they did 30 reps, and lost several pounds, so what really matters is that you do 30 reps with gusto.

I hope that you decide to do Oxycise and post here with us regularly!

Hi Jerry. I am still new to Oxycise but try to read as much as I can on this website because it keeps me motivated. It sounds like the Oxycise Easy Does It videos may be good for you. I haven't done the Easy Does It but it sounds like it is more doable because there is no floor work if I'm remembering correctly. It also seems like people have reported better results with Oxycise than with Bodyflex, which is what brought me over to the Oxycise side.

Good luck in whatever you decide!

I definitely reccomend getting the Oxycixse easy does it series! I have every oxycise tape there is and I love the easy does it series for the evenings just before bed or when I'm not feeling all that well. Level one easy does is done in a chair and even shows the positions if you are in bed! Remember...its not the positions, it's the oxygen that is effective!!! I've done both oxy and BF and I personally feel Oxy is much more natural and gentle on the body. Good luck!
