I am 50 and significantly overweight (315lbs) and have mobility problems at the moment. Right now I can't walk due to an injured ligament in my foot and a twisted knee. The doctor tells me to exercise, but how do you do that without being able to walk even a few feet without pain? Since I can't move too much, my whole body is locked up and my mobility is worsening! My joints are stiff and even my energy is being sapped. Depression is starting too because I can't do what I used to. Will this program help me? Please tell me how? I am so down in the dumps I can't stop crying.

Pearl,
I feel your pain. I almost started to cry myself. I want you to physically see what it has done for some of the others who have been where you are. Look at the home page under Smiles of Successss There is a woman there whose name is Debbie Stancil on page 1. I didn't re-read her story but she came to my mind. Be encouraged Pearl! Read some of the others in your situation. Look for their pictures. Very encouraging to me when I read them. I hope you will be encouraged too! Until next time... Susie |

Hi Pearl. Welcome to the message board! Susie is right....read through the success stories located on the home page. Also, if you spend some time looking through the posts on here you'll see that this is a great place to find support and encouragement! Most all of us here have struggled in some way or another with our weight/health.
It sounds to me like Oxycise! might be just the thing for you. I have not viewed the EDI (easy does it) tapes, but I know they can be done by folks with limited mobility. Perhaps some of those who post on here that are using that series can give you a better idea of what they involve. Oxycise! provides many health benefits in addition to just weigh-loss. Please spend some time browsing through the various posts and reading the success stories on the homepage. I hope you'll consider giving it a try! |

Thank you Susie and Kelly. You are like a lifeline to me. I didn't expect to get an answer so quickly. I'll check out the page you suggested and read some stories. It would be wonderful if all I have to do until I'm better is sit in a chair and breathe! At least I'll feel like I'm doing something. Ironically, I hurt my foot and knee while trying to exercise. My dog, Buddy, got in the way and the rest is history. Thank you for reaching out to me. God bless you both. Pearl

Pearl, I hope you join us. O! is lots of fun especially the support from others who've been there! "Just" breathing can be quite a workout if you do it right, try the commuter workout but press your hands together instead of the steering wheel! Polly

I tried the breath as instructed from that magazine article on your front page. If I'm doing it right it does seem to be quite a work out if you put a lot of effort into it. It's hard to do the pelvic thing when you're sitting though. I can't wait to get my credit card balance down so I can order the beginning tapes. I'm probably going to try the gentler ones I guess. Is that a good place to start?

Hi Pearl,
I really believe that Oxycise can help you. Yes, just breathing can be quite the work out I'm not sure where you live, but you might check out your library until you are able to purchase your own tapes. That is where I first learned about O. Start with the introductory tape first to learn the breath. Or there are several different posts on here that tell how to do it. I've never tried the Easy Does It series. When I hurt my foot, I just do the breathing where normally I would be standing. I know that many people have really liked the Easy Does it. We would love to have you post with us. Just want you to know you're welcome. Glad you are here. Sharon |

Hi Pearl!
Welcome from me, too! Please be sure to read Julie's breathing tips in the "Newsletters and Announcements" section at the top of this board. It will help you get off to a "right" start. Good luck!!! |

Pearl! so glad you are with us! and listen....Easy Does It, Level 1 would work for you; well at least the first segment fer sure.
You sit through all the 10 exercises. There are some involving the legs that might be difficut to begin with BUT the great thing is the flexibility of Oxycise! I cannot, simply cannot, do some of the ones on Segment 1, 2 and 3 involving my legs....can do most but for those one or two, I simply do the breathing! Or I repeat one of the earlier exercises that doesn't involve my legs. And in the Oxycise book, it is the breathing that counts the most! I wish Julie would get online and help you ......cause IF I read the book right, you can lose just by doing 30 reps a day---breathing! You know, do 10 reps.....rest.....do 10 more....rest and do the last 10. YOu can also do 10 in the morn, 10 in the pm and 10 later in the day! That is the beauty of Oxycise---the flexibility! Continue to read the breathing instructions and my advise is for you to get the Easy Does It, Level 1 when your finances allow. The L1 and L2...well, they could be a bit tough for starting. I am simply sticking with Easy Does It because of arthritic knees, bad hip and some muscle sheath problems.... BUT DON'T GIVE UP, PEARL! You CAN DO IT!!!!!!! Just keep on keeping on....and use this board for support. We are here to help! |

I just KNEW I would forget something important, Pear.
On the EDI, Level 1, and in Segment one there is a rectangle showing an individual lying in a bed doing the exercsies....at least most of them. So even for those who cannot sit or stand for long, there is help. And as Jill says in the video...."Let's Breathe" |

I am glad you find O. It works and if all you can do is sit right now it really reduces your waist. 3 inches in 2 weeks. Don't cry

Pearl:
Mel found Easy Does It at her library. Have you had a chance to check yours? I know mine in our wee town doesn't have it, but yours might. |

I have enjoyed all your replies. Wow, how uplifting to have people reach out to you! My niece is going to check the library in my area. If she can't find it she said she would order the Easy Does it ones for me to see how I like it. She says it would be an early Christmas gift. What a sweetheart she is. She comes by twice a day to walk the dog as I can't get out to do it and poor Buddy is bouncing off the walls from no exercise. Kind of like me. lol I've been doing the breathing though and I have to tell you that last night was the first good nights sleep I've had in weeks. I wonder if it could be all that oxygen? My mood seems brighter too because like I said at least I'm doing something instead of sitting and feeling sorry for myself. I can't wait to see if she can get the tapes. But I kn ow she's going to order them for me if she can't so that's something to hold on to.

Pearl so glad to see you tonight. You are on your way to being healthy! YAAH for you!!
Yes Oxycise can really make a difference in being able to sleep and in your mood. Several people have commented in the past that they would keep doing O even if they didn't loose weight, just for all of the other health benefits. Yes you will loose weight. I'm 52 and have a lot to loose, also, but it is coming off. Some weeks it is faster than others, and sometimes I regain, but it is coming off!! What a wonderful niece you have. It's so wonderful that she is willing to walk your dog for you and go to the library. I hope she is able to find a copy of the video there. It's also fantastic that if not she is going to get it for an early Christmas. Sharon |

Pearl! How exciting! Even if the tapes aren't in the library, your niece is going to get you the Easy Does It ......Santa may come early.
What a grand niece you have! I am so excited for you! I LOVE my EDI even though I have to do some variations here and there. You gonna like it! |

Well she couldn't find it at the library so she's going to order it for me. I can't wait. I'm doing the breath as best i can and I still seem to be sleeping better at night. If that's the only benefit I ever see that is worth it to me. LOL Good news is that the knee pain is getting less each day although my foot is still very painful. I'll be off my feet pretty much for quite a while still, so I'm glad I'll be doing something at least instead of sitting and watching my hair get more gray! Cyberhugs to all, Pearl

Pearl,
Welcome to Oxycise! So glad you found us. Sounds like you have a wonderful, caring niece. If you don't mind if your tapes are used you can try ebay. I have gotten a few of mine that away. You just need to watch shipping cost & such so that you don't end up paying more for them then you would if you bought them new. The EDI tapes are a little harder to find on ebay though. Ellen |

Pearl I just read all the posts and had to leave you a note too. I sometimes, due to poor health, just lie down on the floor and do my entire workout that way. It doesn't matter what you do as long as you do something!
How blessed you are to have a loving and wonderful gal in your life!..and Buddy is lucky to have both of you. Just keep breathing and reading all the wonderful inspirational stories in here! I will be back in a few days to see how you are doing. In light and love, Nancy |
