I got BF and would have liked to start but you need an empty stomach to do it. Frankly, my stomach is rarely empty except for early in the day. I want something I could do mid-day even if I had a bite to eat 30 minutes ago. So I'd like to try Oxycise.
My question now is can I just do proper breathing and not the exercises every other day? My objective isn't to lose weight but I need more energy. I am a shallow breather and feel rather lethargic most of the day. I hope that Oxycise will teach me how to breathe deeper, expand my lungs and give me energy. I would do exercises some days but just breathing some other days. Any advice? Thanks. |

Hello Mrs Cleaver and welcome to the board. I too am a shallow breather who is doing this more to regain breath health than to shape my body. I have never gotten into doing the exercises. I have the commuter CD and just listen to it to get the pace of the breathing correctly while laying in bed in the morning. It definitely helps me. I believe it will help you also. Warmly, Wendy

Mrs. by all means learn to do the deep breathing. It gives you energy and you feel refreshed. Also, your muscles need oxygen so it is a good way to feed them too.
Welcome to the board. What's BF? Jeans |

I found with O! even if you just ate Thanksgiving dinner you can go do an O! workout or the deep breathing. It won't hurt you. You'll actually feel better. Good luck. Jeans |

Hello MrsCleaver and welcome to the Oxycise! Message Boards!
The main purpose of Oxycise! is to provide your body with lots of extra oxygen. So the breathing itself is the most important part of the Oxycise! workout. Please keep in mind though that in order to achieve your best results, it is important to do the complete Oxycise! workout which incorporates the breathing technique with the flexing and contracting of all your major muscle groups. I am sure you will see positive changes in your body by just changing the way you breathe. Please let us know how you progress! Good luck to you and keep on breathin'! Kirstine Oxycise! Staff |

Ok, Being in the medical field I have a few advantages from reading books most people would not read unless their life depended on it!So I am going to try and keep it simple. Breathing exercises are great look at all the various forms of breathing in Yoga.Look what can be done with just breathing and deep thoughts and a relaxed body! The problem is thus. If your body does not have need of more oxygen then why would it do anything with the extra breath you take in? Even someone with phnuemonia usually has a blood ox level of 98% you have to get to 88% usually before they put O2 mask on you. In fact I know chain smokers that smoke 3 packs a day that have blood ox levels at rest of 98% or higher.
So if short tidal breathing at rest is enough to keep your blood at 98% O2 levels then what in the world would deep breathing do for you? The deep breathing by itself is just part of the puzzle. When you stress the muscles and bones in the body and provide them with deep breathing you create a bunch of chemical changes at the individual cellular level. The more cells affected the greater and faster the response tot he program. You will only get very little results by doing just the breathing alone. It might boost your immunity but to see any significant improvement in energy you normal have to put out more to get more. Sitting on ones duff breathing is not going to get it done unless you are so sick and diseased that deep breathing alone represents cardio vascular exercise. Energy is directly related to output you never see a couch patato with loads of energy and the people that are most energetic are do'er's they are always out and about doing things. One of the biggest problems I find with my fellow American is that they never want to follow a program. They want results but they want it "ala cart" they want to pick and choose like it is a buffet. Before anyone goes changing the basic program they need to follow it for at least a month or two so they can see what results they are going to get by following the program as designed. I have seen this a million times working with people at the YMCA in my town. I should probably add that when they follow the program as I designed it they get results and when they go changing things they fail to get results. So I think you owe it to yourself to try it as designed for at least 30 days since 15 minutes a day is absolutely nothing. I have three boys 7,7 and 11 years old and I have college 4 days a week on top of everything else. Even I can find 15 minutes each day! The only easy day was yesterday! |
