I am new at this and have spent a week practicing the breathing. Today I did 30 reps and now I feel as if I pulled my lower muscles in my stomach. Its not the feeling you get when you are sore from working out but the pain from slightly pulled muscle. What did I do wrong? confused

Ordelly, you might have been a little too aggressive (?) See my contribution on General Discussion under Easy on the Breathing. I knocked my back out for 3 days once with a pinched nerve from breathing! We tend to take O! so lightly because we think it's just a little air going in and out, but sometimes, my whole back aches after O!ing b/c I think I may be putting too much physical effort into it.

You may have been trying too much at once? I'd probably back off a bit on the amount of exhertion and concentrate on taking in the air and exhaling it. If you feel ANY pull or tension anywhere in your body (i.e. a little muscle or nerve saying, "Hey take it easy up there"), ease up and just enjoy the breathing itself.

The muscle soreness went away the same day. I just had to take it easy. I was just starting out when that happened so I prabably was doing something wrong. Thanks for the reply.

As Jill recommends in her books, try to "Listen" to your body. If something is hurting, you're probably pushing yourself too hard. Or you may need to check your posture or breathing technique.
Or you may just need to rest.

It's fine to break up your workouts into shorter segments... they don't have to be done all at one time.

If at any time you feel like you are "overdoing" it, it's a good idea to simplify things and go back to the basics. My favorite body position for doing this is the "Pelvic Tilt" .... just lay on your back with your knees up, feet flat on the floor. This position helps protect your lower back and it's easy to see the effects of your breathing and think about what you are doing as your abdomen rises and falls with each inhale and exhale.

True! What you just described must be my all time favorite position (on my bed, of course, so I'm nice and comfy). Ironically, Jill's favorite in Level 1 is the Torpedo which is done straight out on the floor. smile
