I'm not totally sure exactly how the oxygen/carbon exchange works, if my oxygen saturation has to be above 100% for me to start losing weight. Does it?
My problem is that I have a loss of blood vessels in my lungs due to a lack of oxygen when I was a child; they died off. I have 30% of them left, and my oxygen at best with my oxygen machine is about 97%. Can this work for me? I normally sit around 86%-90% oxygen saturation and don't feel suffocated. *My doctor said I can anything I want as far as exercise, etc, as long as I don't feel like I'm going overboard. Hello! I hope you will give us a name to call you by. Welcome to the Oxycise Board, and the great bunch of folks who post here in our little corner of the web.
I voted YES!!! because I firmly believe that Oxycise will help you!!! Since you already have the recommendation of your doctors, I certainly think you should give O your best effort! I think I would start gently, until you really master the breathing technique. Be sure you read the breathing tips under Newsletters and Announcements at the top of the board. There are some really good tips there. Feel free to join us on the daily thread called D2L (determined to lose) for lots of support and encouragement. Best wishes for better health!!! Thanks for answering- I'm Faith. I'll change my display name if I can. I'm torn between this program and isobreathing. Isobreathing seems "easier" and safer for people like me who are on oxygen (part time in my case, only when i sleep), but I honestly wouldn't know. I guess I can buy the level 1 dvd for this program and maybe an isobreathing and see what i can handle best.
I just want to get past my plateau. My health greatly increased after avoiding MSG (free glutamic acid) in foods. I lost 40lbs just by avoiding processed foods - no exercise, no breathing exercises. Even after I started exercising, I still didn't lose weight. I have a habit of shallow breathing because I have a lot of scar tissue internally from 4 open heart surgeries so it can hurt to breath deeply and it's actually difficult once in a while. I know this would at least help me form the habit of breathing more deeply. This message has been edited. Last edited by: Faith, |

Hi Faith! Thanks for giving us your name. It just makes the board seem more friendly. Wow!! You've already taken great strides to improve your health!! Congratulations on losing 40 pounds!!!
Why don't you just lie down somewhere comfortable, and try a few breaths to see if it might work for you. Relax, and take as deep a breath as you can, then tighten your abs, buttocks, and kegal, and sniff three more little sniffs. Don't hold your breath, but exhale then, and push all the air out, and then do 3 more little puffs to be sure the air's all out. Do this four times for each rep, and we do 30 reps per workout. It's easier to feel your abs and really "get" the breathing lying down. It takes everyone time to learn this technique, so be patient with yourself. I've never heard of isobreathing, but it may be very good. Anyway, I hope you find a way to get past your plateau. I hit several of them, so I know how frustrating they can be, but it's good to remember that they are the body's way of adjusting to the changes you've made. They are a good thing. :-) Good luck!! Well, I give all the glory to God. If I hadn't listened to his instruction (through dream) I'd literally be dead now.
The breathing technique you mentioned is something I actually do (minus the muscle tightening). I do a thing where I tighten my muscles but not in conjunction with breathing; I will from now on. My grandmother mentioned it and my sister did too who's just about done getting a degree in occupational therapy. - I'm not sure if she heard of it there tho ugh. I know your belly is supposed to go out when you breath in for true diaphragm breathing, but how can I do that if I tighten my abs? When I say if it'll work for me what I mean is that I'm not sure it'll make a difference in burning fat. I know it DOES make me feel better when I do deep breathing (I don't do it very often, few times a year, lol). I gotta get into the practice of breathing more deeply so I don't fall into shallow breaths. |

Hey Lin! Way to go! :-)
Faith, I forgot one of the really important tips; to relax between the exhale and the next inhale. That way you can take in more air. So, tighten the abs AFTER you take in the deep breath and hold the squeeze until you've puffed your 3 puffs. :-) Hope that makes sense. Susanna Failure is not an option, so choose something else. |

Hi Faith,
Big welcome from me, too. Susanna has given you really good tips on how to do the Oxy. breathing. I used to breathe very shallow, also. Whenever I would breathe deeply you could really hear me wheezing. I've found since doing O, that it is really rare for me to wheeze. It became easier and easier to breathe deeply, the longer I did O. Congratulations on your weight loss. Tht is great. Sharon |

Faith I would try this program first because it has been around longer then Isobreathing and is time tested. Everyone one from obesse men and women to skin and bones to the elderly have tried this program and I am thinking prob. 7 out of 10 have gotten results. That is why the program is still around after all these years.
I was an athlete most of my life. I studied in Eruope and competed in the USA and in Europe. My Dad was in the Army for 22 year and he was a Drill Sargent for 3 years and an Army Master trainer for a few years. I have forgotten more about fitness then most will know. I have set records in many teen divisions in amature sports. I am now going to medical school to become a Histological Chemist.I hae been trained by many of the leading minds in Fitness just because I was a smart kid and had the right contacts like the late Dr. Mel Sciff, Dr. Hatfield, Dr. Yesis and Dr. Elliot Darden. Most of my time with them was due to conferences that they where giving for the Army at Ft. Benning Ga.. SOmeone like you is an inspiration to many of us. I have faced some orthopedic problems that left me crippled for a while but nothing like what youdeal with all the time! I think that with any program Oxycise,Isobreathing,Conventional Weightlifting, Conventional Cardio that the key is going to be you pacing yourself. You have to be mindful of your limitations currently but as you gain capacity and efficiency you have to be willing to push yourself harder when your body tells you to! The main reason athletes at advanced levels need trainers is to pace them. Many at that level are compulsive and think if a little bit is good a lot must be even better. At the other end of the spectrum you have regular Joes and they usualy benifitt from a trainer for the opposite reason most are lazy and do not want to get out of their comfort zone and they need someone that can recognise when they need to be pushed and is willing to push them! So no matter what program you chose I think you are going to be limited by your own ability to read and listen to your body! You strike me as a very very smart woman and one that is not afraid of much of anything! I am thinking you will do well.P.M. Sometime I would love to get to know you because you strike me as just the type of person I like to have as a friend! Sincerely, John The only easy day was yesterday! |
