Visit www.wilsonsyndrome.com. It talks about all the things you can do for low thyroid. When I went on their therapy I was finally able to lose weight.

Hi Hadassah and Kala -
I too am hypothyroid and am at the end of my rope trying to lose weight. In the past three months I have gained over 20 lbs. I am on synthroid and doing O!, but the metabolism just isn't getting jump started! Kala, I can't get into the website for wilson syndrome that you listed. Is there any other place to go and get information? Hadassah, how are you doing? |

This web site has alot of information. The biggest thing I do is to take my synthroid (if you are on it) first thing in the morning on an empty stomach and wait an hour before eating. It has made the biggest difference for me. Then healthy eating and exercise. I still want to lose 15 to 20 more pounds but I'm down about 15 and not gaining. The not gaining is the big thing! Hi,
I also have a low thyroid which I didn't know I had until someone from work told me I was depressed so I went to the doctor. This is probably the most stupidest question ever, but when do you take your pill? Since I am on depression medicine which is supposed to be taken with food, and the thyroid is to be taken before food. Does anyone know if I could take my thyroid at bedtime? |

Cindy -
Just reading through the hypothyroid posts - I too am on thyroid meds and antidepressants. I am usually up during the night with my children, so I take my synthroid then, so I can take my antidepressants when I get up. My pharmacist told me that they can be taken at night as long as it is atleast 2-3 hours after you last ate. |

Try foot reflexology treatments for the thyroid points on your feet. Very effective.

I thought I would give my 2 cents. I to have low thyroid, I tend to lean towards alternative or natural meds. I am on a natural thyroid supplement that is great, but the biggest and best solution it to take liquid minerals. There are several brands. and sypmtoms of not enough minerals are so vast, 85% of people are mineral deficient, and most multi vitamins do not have enough minerals in them. If you like I can tell you what my favorite brand is and they taste soooo good
Since I have started doing this along with the thyroid pills, I have seen amazing increase in energy, clarity of mind and it has also boosted my weight loss. Actually, there are some days I forget to take the pills and if I take the minerals I do not even feel it. Now if I do not do either, boy am I in trouble! Also use Natural sea salt, organic is best. Thyroid problems are most often associated with lack of iodine in the diet, and iodized salt or table salt is so processed that it is actually not good for you. However sea salt is and is also a great source of minerals. Also try to avoid broccoli, soy, cauliflower, cabbage, peanut products, brussel sprouts ( I think there are a few others but I can't remember). This is hard for people to understand yes these have lots of vitamins but they aggrevate thyroid problems and make things worse. I love broccoli but I can so tell the difference when I eat it, my symptoms are so much worse, so I tend to avoid it. Hope this helps |

joyfulmama - Interesting. I have hypothyroidism too, and while I knew to stay away from soy, I didn't know about broccoli. I guess I'll have to find some other vegetables to eat.

Hi all, after struggling for years with the thyroid issue, I have found a few things that work well for me. Coconut oil, check out Tropical Traditions web site, a very healthy fat although not politically correct, it nourishes the thyroid and also boosts metabolism. All the cruciferous veggies as listed above have goiterigens (sp) and aggrevate the thyroid, if they are steamed or slightly cooked a little better. Also, Kombucha tea has helped tremendously with energy and depression that goes along with the thyroid issues, just full of enzymes and good stuff. I'm ordering my "O" package today, I can't wait to get started. Tam

I too have read about the coconut oil, I have tried using it for rubbing on my neck and well anywhere. I also us it for baths when my skin is dry. I am going to start using in recipies I am just a little nervous... I think I will start with a small amount.
Larry I love peanuts too. well mostly peanut butter, but I cut way back and it is just an occasional treat now. |

Well, I have returned! Been a long time but frankly I had given up. Spent past 3 years with leg difficulties. Won't go into details, but things are better.
Have low thyroid and on Synthroid BUT I will be 73 years old in a few months and wonder if I am just kidding myself about losing weight. My arthritis knees would benefit, that's fer sure. Read that for every pount of weight one loses, one takes off 3 pounds weight off knees. My knees would like that! So, here I am....... soon to 73 hypothyroid take blood pressure meds take synthroid would like to remove 20 pounds by Christmas. QUESTION: has anyone know anyone my age with above problems that have lost 20 pounds using Oxycise.....or any 'cize'?// I don't want false encouragement, ok? But has anyone of this list known of an elderly one with hypothroid losing much weight at all? Thank you......and before I reorder Tape One of Easy Does It Workout [misplaced my first one] I will wait and see what y'all got to say. peace anne |
