Ok, I'm informed about the pucker lines that I may get if I purse my lips. I looked at the picture in the book of Jill blowing out. It does not look like her cheeks are puffed out.
I have a problem keeping my lips straight ... I guess because it feels like I can blow more forcefully when I pucker them a little and puff out my cheeks. And as I am trying it now, I realize that I can only puff my cheeks out when I pucker a little. Also, in trying to make the smallest hole I can to blow through, I wind up spitting saliva. Then it also takes longer to get all the air out and I have to hurry to keep up with Jill on the commuter tape, as I previously posted. Advice, please! |

hi, Buff!
I don't know if I know the correct answer to your questions, but here is my advice. Just do what feels right! If the hole is too small, make it bigger. If it feels right for you to puff your cheeks a bit, then do it. At least, that's what I would do! Jennifer |

Hi Buff,
I suspect that everyone may hold their lips a little differently. Jill's directions are to "flatten your lips", and also, "form your lips like you're blowing through a straw (or playing a trumpet)" Here's what I do.... I "flatten" my lips in the same way as if I'm going to put on lipstick, except that I barely open my mouth. And when I I exhale, I can feel the air blowing onto my chin. That's my personal exhale "style". It's not necessarily the only way to do it, but that may be helpful. Let me know! Julie This message has been edited. Last edited by: Kirstine, |

i like the idea of putting on the lipstick as far as placing your lips on the exhale. we tried the party favors but i think the lips tend to go around the top of it and it still is like an o instead of flat. have a good day |

Julie, it feels like that might work. Thanks.

Wow I didn't think the blowing out air was a problem until I read thru these posts and now I wonder how I have been doing it..? I like the clue about feeling the air on my chin after exhaling but that means to me the upper lip is slightly overextending the bottom lip. Is that how you read that? I will try it tomorrow, thanks for making me think! ~N

Hmm I know people have different exhaling styles but in the oxycise video i remember Jill said to try not to stick out your lips or something like that I think. Anyhow, what if the only way you exhale correctly is if you pucker up your lips and blow the air out? Will this work still? Blowing the air out with flatten lips is hard!

Kitana, I think the issue with puckering is that you'll get lines around your mouth. The flat lip thing does take some practice, but if you keep at it, it gets easier with time.

It's easier to keep the lips flat if you keep the smile on from when you were inhaling.

So do you sorta form an "o" shape with your lips but your also sorta trying not to pucker up your lips while exhaling? I dunno I think the ehale is the most important part but i'm not getting it right. In the video I noticed Jill does a weird kinda "gasping" frog like noise when she breathes. Am I suppose to do that? What if I cant do that? How do you know if you exhale fully, forcefully, and also corectly enough?

Simply breathe in with a smile///then 3 sniffs pulling in your tummy & buns///then keeping your smile, flatten your lips & blow out hard///then the 3 puffs out.
The lips are in a position similar to playing the flute or trumpet. Noises don't matter. It's just the sniffs & puffs in the mike you hear. You can make as little or as much noise as you want. alright well i certainly feel like i'm intentionaly exhaling and it just doesn't feel right. I heard somewhere that the exhale feels like a cough. Now that I certainly can do but breathing out intentionaly seems so hard to do correctly for some odd reason?
