Hi,

First message I am posting as I am new to room. Have been doing video since mid-May. Consistently, 7 das a week. Didn't measure but I am a very healthy eater, only eating unhealthy about once a month, for B/D's etc., and have gained 6 lbs. What am I doing wrong? I think I have video down pat. Any words of encouragement?

If you gain weight and lose inches at the same time, it's a good bet that you have burned fat and gained some muscle mass --- and both of these results are great.

Or a temporary gain of weight can be due to monthly hormone changes or other factors.

If your eating is healthy I wouldn't worry too much.

Jill recommends measuring carefully once a week. She also suggests weighing every day at the same time... so you will realize that your weight fluctuates up and down normally from day to day by several pounds. This will help you learn your own normal weight "range."

Be sure to relax when you inhale (don't tighten your abdominal muscles) and then tighten and scoop like crazy during the 3 sniffs, exhale and 3 extra puffs. Also flex and tighten and really work your muscles in doing the body positions.

In some positions, i.e. bending over and on floor positions I cough. Does anyone experience coughing during these positions, or is it unique to my body. Only second post and already looking forward to chat room Eek

I can't say that I've experienced coughing with these positions. We're all different though, and our bodies react in different ways.

I hope you keep on breathing and find that it's doing wonderful things for you!!!

Hi Bailey, Welcome to oxycise. I'm pretty new to the boards but have been oxycising 6 days/week for a month. I too have been doing some coughing but it doesn't seem to be related to the floor or chair or special exercises. Mine is the deep breathing! The times I do the breathing the right way, I sometimes don't have room for the 3 more puffs and trying causes me to cough. I'm still learning. I'm beginning to learn to relax before I take my breath then suck it all in, puff, exhale, and blow! I still haven't lost any weight either but have lost 7 1/2 inches. Measure! I think it will give you incentive to keep going. Good luck, Dani

I am very overweight and live a very active and healthy lifestyle. It seems that with every baby I had and one set of twins my weight went up but would not come down. I have been measuring and weighing with no progress yet. I wonder if the folks with the real slow results could be a low metabolism. Some people may have to work harder longer to get this up to where the weight and inches start to come off.

How long have you been Oxycising? It takes a while for some people to have results, but patience and consistency usually pay off. Hope you are soon seeing wonderful results!

I have been doing the big o for about 14 days now. I have not lost any inches but have lost 8 lbs.I can really tell that everything seems to be a bit more firm than when i started. The day I can put on a tank top and not see the tire around the middle I will be excited for sure.My short term goal is to weigh about 125. I work out
every day, and also walk. I know this will work for me as I have confidence from reading the results from others.

That could be a couple of things.
When you're on the floor, perhaps you are allergic to the carpet fibers?
The other thing could be acid reflux.
I suffer from that and I am finding that the laying down position can bring on a tad of heartburn which can make me cough.
My doctor told me though that as soon as I see the "spare tire" around my middle disappear that perhaps the reflux will go away too. I LIVE in this hope.
Another thing came to mind as I was typing this--perhaps this is your body's reaction to your lungs expanding.
When I was a kid and did a lot of running, I remember it used to hurt to breathe sometimes after doing that. My gym teacher told me that it was because my lungs were expanding.

I've also have not experienced any additional weight loss after the initial 1.5 lbs the first 2 weeks. If fact, I gained back .5lbs. and after doing O! for almost 5 weeks, am discouraged also. However, I'll keep pushing forward and stick with it for 1 more month. I'm doing Level 1 and adding in Level 2 when I can fit it in. Any other slow starters out there. Any advice?

It's funny how different bodies work differently. My first week I gained a pound, my second week too(i think). Since then (last July) I have been a very slow loser. Little by little I have gone down 8 lbs. I notice that I do go down a little faster if I watch what I eat better. But- even my husband is amazed at my increase in energy- he calls me the energizer bunny (an exaggeration!). In the spring of 2002 the doctor found that I was extremely anemic. He prescribed iron and I took it, but another blood test showed little change. My church (mormon) said they weren't sure I should even come to Guatemala unless this were resolved but they let me come anyway. I used to be so tired! I tell you this just to show how thankful I am for Oxycise!- and I hope you have good results, too. Don't give up!

con amor, Jennifer Smile

Hi Rennie Lynn--I'm sorry its getting discouraging. Have your clothes fit any differently? Or have you measured yourself? (I don't like measuring for myself, but it seems that it is helpful for a lot of others) Do you think you are gaining muscle?

Another possibility, which might be related to Jennifer's point, is that your body may have gotten used to it so its not letting you lose more weight. What are your workouts like? Do you do the same number of the same workout everyday? Or do you vary it?

These are just possibilities of things that I think I've read in other parts of the message board. Good luck!!

I've been trying to do at least Level 1 & 2, 6 times a week. I just received Level 3, Upper Arms and Thighs/Butt workouts. I took advantage of the 2 for 1 deal at Christmas. Should I start to master Level 3 and the other two workouts now? I did measure myself before I started, but I like to gauge my weightloss on how on clothes fit and they're actually tighter. I could make better choices when it comes to my meals. If I don't eat at least 5-6 times a day, my blood sugar drops too low. I should probably eat more fruit for my in-between meals. Also, with working full-time and a 1 hr. commute each way, we typically eat dinner at 7:30p.m., which probably is not good for the metabolism. I'll keep at it and keep you guys posted on my progress. Thanks for the words of encouragement and advice.

I'm sorry that you aren't having great results yet. I know that for myself, I wasn't being realistic about how much I was eating. I needed a guideline for amounts and calories, etc., and I started using Reader's Digest's Change One plan. It allows a 100 calorie snack twice a day, and I often do eat fruit, but not always. I hope you can find the combination that works good for you.

I've been going to Weight Watchers and I've found that eating better has definitely helped (in addition to exercising, which also is important). And we've learned new meal and snack ideas that are healthier. For example, if you like the inside of an apple pie, you can get a healthier version by taking an apple, peel it, cut it up, put sweetener and cinnamon on it, and bake it until its soft. Its really good. I also like to cut up strawberries and put sweetener on them. They're healthy, sweet, and I think they are yummy.

These are my reflections on O! and not losing.
1 Am I breathig correctly?
2 Am I breathing with gusto?
3 Am I flexing with enough power?

When I don't lose with O! it is usually one of the 3 things mentioned above. Sometimes I slack off on the gusto & pay the price with no losses.

Next I look at what I am eating. Is it healthy? Then PORTION SIZES!!! I can eat as healthy as can be but if I eat too much of it I do not lose. I have a friend who is an "all-natural" type of person. She was not losing at all till she looked at her portion sizes & cut down.

Hidden calories are sneaky, like fruit juices & special instant coffees...I stay away from them now since they seem to have alot of sugar.

Maybe this will help you out. O is a learning process & I try to keep in mind that I am changing my whole lifestyle.

I know the feeling of being discouraged. I am one to give up right away when I see no results and this time I hope that with all of you to chat with I will stay motivated to keep on oxycising no matter how long it takes to lose the weight. I do however have a question and it is I only have level one and two, is it necessary to get the other videos in order to lose the weight? Good luck everyone.

Joline,
I have Levels 1,2&3 & he best for me is L1. As you get going, you'll see which L you lose best on. Susanna,I believe only has the book, not the videos. It's the oxygen that is the principle, not necessarily the body manipulations.

Thanks everyone for the advice!! I'm going to stick with it and give it more time. I have to be honest, I haven't been eating all that well. I just ordered the Change One Program from Amazon and hope to have it by mid-week. Between Oxycise and the Change One Program, I hope to see results. My main problem is below the waist, so I've started learing the body positions for the Thighs and Buns 1 tape. I'll keep everyone posted on my progress. I hope to have some good news to report by next Monday. For everyone in the deep freeze. . . keep warm!!
