Happy Morning O!Friends,
I did my O! this morning, drank my water, had my fruit smoothie with almonds, no caffeine when I got to the office - instead had caffein-free herbal tea. I'm eating less animal-based foods and more plant-based foods so my body won't lose so much calcium (since I've been diagnosed as being borderline osteoporitic.) I am reading a very good book called "The China Study" by T. Colin Campbell, PhD. This is the most comprehensive study of nutrition ever conducted. On page 205 it says the following: "These researchers explained that animal protein, unlike plant protein, increases the acid load in the body. An increased acid load means that our blood and tissues become more acidic. The body does not like this acidic environment and begins to fight it. In order to neutralize the acid, the body uses calcium, which acts as a very effective base. This calcium, however, must come from somewhere. It ends up being pulled from the bones, and the calcium loss weakens them, putting them at greater risk for fracture. We have had evidence for well over a hundred years that animal protein decreases bone health. The explanation of animal protein causing excess metabolic acid, for example, was first suggested in the 1880s and was documented as long ago as 1920. We also have known that animal protein is more effective than poant protein at increasing the metabolic acid load in the body. When animal protein increases metabolic acid and draws calcium from the bones, the amount of calcium in the urine is increased." On page 206 it makes this incredible statement: "Incidentally, as mentioned in chapter four, a six-month study funded by the Atkins Center found that those people who adopted the Atkins Diet excreted 50% more calcium in their urine after six months on the diet." Each day is an adventure - I need God's strength to enjoy the ride. Melinda |

Well, I'm off to a pretty good start. I work part time three days a week and full time evenings. I will be squeezing in reps whenever I can until I get to thirty.
My stats: Height 5 ft 6 in Weight 197.6 (weighed this morning) Pant size: 38 (a little snug but I'm going with that). My goal is to wear pant size 34. I don't know what weight that would be. I would like to get down to 170 pounds. Well, time to go to work. I'm in this for the long haul. I will be taking my tapes and book to my daughter this weekend to hopefully get her started. Told her I want us to do this together. Take care, peace and KOB! Rich |

Hi everyone. L1 for me today.
Rich, welcome to the board. Lin, hope you get good news. Glad the scans went well. I finally got an Ipod and love it. I got my hair cut yesterday. The first time I have had short hair (well it's to my collarbones) in years! DH doesn't like it too well (he only likes long hair), but at almost 43 I was ready for a change. Shari |

Hello!
Well the good news is I'm back in the saddle and feeling so much better for it. Thankyou to Rich and Lin for your encouragement. Have done L1 and a few extra breaths today - aiming to do some a bit more tomorrow. Water intake is up and nutition OK, but still eating too much at dinner time - such an ingrained habit! But it is just a habit, and I can change it, so am giving it some thought as to how - any suggestions are welcome! Melinda thankyou for the interesting info. I'm eat plenty of veges, but have been thinking about having more meals with lentils or beans as my protein source, and my bone health is the perfect incentive. Helena I will hang in there! Thanks! This board has really helped me to keep going Take care everyone, and have a joyful day. G. |

Things went pretty well on Thursday. I worked both jobs so I did what I could. All throughout the day I did breaths. I lost count, but I know I went beyond 120 breaths.
I did a few exercises when I could, but I haven't quite got the breathing and exercising at the same time down. It'll get better with practice. Water intake was very good. Food wasn't too bad. All in all, I feel my first day was o.k. Each day will get better. Have a great day everyone! Peace and blessings. Rich |
