Hi! I've been Oxycising since 10/12, everyday (minus 2 days total). The first week I lost, or seemed to lose 1/2 inch off my waist, but since then, either no progress or gaining everywhere! I've learned the breathing technique and feel that I do it cor rectly and "with gusto". I'm breastfeeding a 14 month old, still fairly regularly, and haven't changed my diet significantly until now - to whole foods. But my diet wasn't bad before; I eat when I'm hungry, stop when I'm satisfied, try to eat what my b ody needs. In the past I have not been able to lose anything while nursing without basically starving myself (1800 cal or less) and then I feel dizzy and miserable, with no energyy except from caffeine! I tried Atkins before Oxycise for a solid month a t 0 carbs, around 2000 cals, with 0 results and a lot of misery! I love Oxycise because I can do it in the car - I have 4 kids; the baby + 3 homeschoolers - so I'm very busy and get little sleep or time to exercise otherwise. Could my lack of progress b e d ue to nursing? If I have to cut my calories significantly I won't be able to function without some sort of energy supplement like lots of coffee, which wreaks havoc on my blood sugar! I need to lose the weight - I'm 235 at 5'8" and I had gestational d ia betes with this last pregnancy. I'm getting very discouraged... help! &L

I have nursed all 6 of my kids for quite awhile each one & I must say that the weight stubbornly hung on while I was BF. Some women do hang on to that pregnancy weight while BF and others melt it off. I have no scientific reason why, but I am a long time LaLeche League mom(LLL is a breastfeeding support group that is worldwide) and I have seen plenty of moms not lose weight while BF& others who get underweight while BF.
I would like to hear what Jill or Julie think of this as well. I am sure I didn't answer your ?'s but keep up the O! & eat healthy with lots of water & know that you are doing the best thing for you & your baby. You WILL see results. Also while whole foods are the best way to go, portion control is important. While BF you need those carbs so be careful not to limit drastically your intake. As one loses weight, any toxins that are stored in bodyfat are released in body fluids including breastmilk, so fast weightloss is a big BF no-no. This has been discussed before under "general discussions" on the third page. Look for Susan A.'s topic, "breastfeeding". I am also a mom who breastfed, and loved the bonding. Even if you don't lose much during this time, like others have said, you are giving your body the benefits of the oxygen, plus toning muscles and just making your whole body feel better by doing Oxycise. I hope you keep on Oing, and keep us posted on how it's going for you!
PS. We homeschool too!!! Three children, ages 5, 11, and 15. We also have 2 grown sons, 22 & 25. |

Thanks for the replies! I'm a Nursing mothers Counselor and a La Leche League member and I guess I forget that nursing does keep the weight on in some women. I tend to not cut myself the same slack I would give others... I checked out the post on breastfeeding; good info and nice to hear others with the same dilemma. I'm still frustrated though because I nurse for a good 2 years, possibly longer with this one as he's our last. Just depends on him - and me (I wean anytime after 2, when I feel that "push them away" feeling; Mother Nature!). Hopefully the weight will budge after we stop nursing... until then I'll keep O'ing; my muscles are tighter and my soft baby belly (I have huge babies so I'm stretched out) is "pulling in". I'm just impatient and I feel a lot of judgement from family. Thanks again!

Hi, Sophy!
I really enjoyed seeing your post (a familiar name!). I'm glad you're trying Oxy. I've kept mine up as well. Sounds like the others have given you some good advice--you're feeding another person and it seems completely normal that your body wants to maintain the "status quo." All of us want fast results, so it's hard to be patient with the way things are. Keep in mind there are lots of benefits besides weight/inch loss and muscle toning. If you ever want to talk, I think you have my phone number (or you can e-mail me at normandy2@earthlink.net). Take it easy. --Phyllis Anderson |

Hang in there Sophy. I can understand the family pressure. Here in France they expect you to gain next to nothing with the pregnancy, nurse a few weeks & have all the weight off in less than 3 months!!
Gotta run! The kids have school here on Sat so I need a shower & get them up! Shelby Start weight 105 kilos Goal weight 70 kilos Current weight 92 kilos |

Jill has said that the hormones involved in breast-feeding can make it more difficult to lose weight by causing the body to "hang on" to its fat stores, but that when you are ready to wean your baby weight loss should become easier.
When I first heard this I was amazed, because the ONLY times in my life I have been able to eat what I wanted and still lose weight without any effort was WHEN I was breastfeeding. (I used to think it was that way for everyone, but I realize now that's not the case.) It's a mystery to me how the same hormones can have such different effects.... or maybe it's due to different amounts of different hormones. We are indeed wondrously created... and complicated! |

I was the same as Julie...I lost a LOT of weight breastfeeding. I guess it just depends on the person. But, I DO know that you are NOT supposed to diet during BF. Continue to eat healthy foods, drink plenty of water and keep Oxycising. The extra oxygen in the body will nourish the breastmilk even more.
I am pretty confident that if you keep it up, you will lose the weight once you wean, because your body will signal that you don't need the fat stores anymore. It's kind of like being on a plateau. Keep doing all the right things, and when your body is ready, it will respond. But for now, keep the focus on feeding the baby. That is your body's most important job right now. Take care... Donna |
