Hi, I am pretty new to the Oxycise program, and have been practicing my breathing for the past couple of days before jumping off into the level 1 workout.

Before starting this program, I was doing a different workout that required a lifting/squeezing of the buns along with abdominal contraction. So, I automatically squeeze pretty hard when I do the lift-tilt-sniff-puff sequence.

Something I have noticed is that it really causes my muscles to tense up all the way from my abs down between my legs and clear up my back to the base of my neck. I even feel as though I have 'worked' the muscles the next morning--just from practicing the breathing. And I have had to break up my three, 10 rep practice sessions to do throughout the day because after just 10 reps , I feel exhausted.

My question is--Is it possible I am working too hard at the lift/tilt/sueeze? Should I feel the tensing so strongly, or should it be a more relaxed sensation? I would really appreciate some insight here, as I do not want to start the program with bad habits that will need to be corrected later.

Thanks so much!

Hi! I'm not an official here, but I just wanted to tell you that I think you probably are tensing too much. I still feel the muscles pull though, after doing O for over 3 years, so it's just a part of the workout. It shouldn't really, really hurt though, or you won't stay with it. That's my opinion anyway. Does anyone else have input about this?

Hi Butteryfly,
I'm not "official" either, but I agree with Susanna. Hopefully now that Easter vacations are over, someone "official" can tell you.

Glad to have you here.

Hi "Butterfly",

Remember that the most important aspect of Oxycise! is the breathing. Breathe with gusto and energy!

It is also important to flex and contract your different muscle groups. However, if the flexing interferes with your ability to breathe powerfully, then relax a little with the flexing and squeezing.

Keep on breathin'

Thank you ladies for your advice. Some things interfered with my being able to practice my breathing the past couple of days, but now I think I will be able to set the time aside so I can concentrate on doing it right. When I think about what I was doing and compare it to your answers, I think I need a little more deep breathing and a little less muscle tensing. I will see how that works. Smile
