Hi!
I'm new to Oxycise--2 weeks into it. I am having continuing issues with lightheadness/dizziness. I would probably quit the program except I have seen such amazing results already. I must say that I do have adrenal issues and have always been plagued with lightheadness. I have tried pushing all air out so there is no carbon dioxide remaining, but it doesn't seem to help. I have noticed if I don't inhale quite as much, it helps. I have Level 1 and I have to keep stopping it after about every 2 or 3 positions to rest/let the dizzy feeling subside. I have also bought the Easy Does It Level 1 since there is more rest time in it, but have yet to start it. The positions seem almost too easy. My questions are: 1) Is there anything else I can do to help the dizzyness right now or just wait and see if it will work itself out? 2) Does stopping so frequently during the workout really mess up the amount of toning/weight loss? 3) Would Easy Does It Level 3 or 4 be more challenging in re: to positions? At this point I really need to take the rest time during the workout, so it works out to be more like 1/2 hour than 15 minutes. I really don't want to quit Oxycising, cause I can already see the toning happening. Any help/advice would be appreciated. Thanks! Allie |

First, here's an article on lightheadedness with some safety precautions:
Lightheadedness usually is not a cause for concern unless it is severe, does not go away, or occurs with other symptoms such as an irregular heartbeat or fainting. Lightheadedness can lead to falls and other injuries. Protect yourself from injury if you feel lightheaded: Lie down for a minute or two. This will allow more blood to flow to your brain. After lying down, sit up slowly and remain sitting for 1 to 2 minutes before slowly standing up. Rest. It is not unusual to develop lightheadedness during some viral illnesses, such as a cold or the flu. Resting will help prevent attacks of lightheadedness. Do not drive a motor vehicle, operate equipment, or climb on a ladder while you are dizzy. Do not use substances that can damage your circulation, including caffeine, tobacco, alcohol, and illegal drugs. Avoid dehydration, which can cause or increase lightheadedness, when you have an illness that causes diarrhea, vomiting, or a fever. Drink more fluids, especially water. Other fluids are also helpful, such as fruit juice mixed to half-strength with water, rehydration drinks, weak tea with sugar, clear broth, and gelatin dessert. If you have another medical condition, such as kidney disease or heart disease, that limits the amount of fluids you are allowed to have, do not drink more than this amount without first talking to your doctor. |

There are different types of dizziness and different causes.
For new Oxycise! students the most common cause is hyperventilation, or overbreathing. It is caused by an imbalance in carbon dioxide in the blood. To treat dizziness you can try the following: Try to slow your breathing. You can breathe through pursed lips (as if you are blowing out a candle) or you can cover your mouth and one nostril, breathing through the other nostril. Try to relax. Let me know if this helps! Comments re. your other questions:
2) Does stopping so frequently during the workout really mess up the amount of toning/weight loss? No... it shouldn't adversely affect your results. Jill has even told people that they can break up their workout into shorter segments. 3) Would Easy Does It Level 3 or 4 be more challenging in re: to positions? "Easy Does It" has 3 different levels. The body positions in Level 2 and 3 are different, but not a whole lot more challenging. Jill intentionally kept the body positions on the Easy Does It workouts very "user friendly"-- for those who are elderly, or physically challenged. You can still get a good workout by putting lots of energy into the breathing, but I think you might be happier with more challenging body positions. Since you already know the basics of Oxycise! breathing, you might consider trying to trade your current tapes for some of the regular workouts, particularly if they are still unopened. You could then switch back and forth between your EDI workout and the regular series. Call the toll free number (1-800-OXYCISE) or email Mette at info@oxycise.com if you are interested in doing this. She can assist you with the details. take care! Julie |

Dear Alliepat,
I am so glad to hear that someone else is having the same problems that I am. I've done the workout 3 times, and I've been so dizzy and lightheaded that I become really tired. I've pushed myself to keep going, although I have to just do basic breaths throughout. I guess that's my question to Julie G (or anyone reading this)...if you only did the basic breath for the whole 15 minutes, will this program still work the same? Thanks. |

Dear Alliepat,
I forgot to mention that I was excited to hear that you had great results already! I think I noticed a little difference after one workout (my pants seemed to fit looser)...I don't know, maybe I was imagining it. I can't wait until I'm into this 2 weeks like you! I hope I have the same results - - it seems that most people see significant results after 2 weeks, right? |

Hi everyone,
The breathing is the most important part of the workout. So be patient and take the time you need to practice and improve. Practicing the breathing all by itself, without the body positions, is a good way to do your workouts at first, until it starts to feel powerful, comfortable, and natural. You won't burn as many calories doing the breathing alone (as you will doing the breathing PLUS all the muscle work of the body positions), but you can still get a good workout, and great abdominal toning, and it's worth it to take the extra time perfecting the way you breathe. Lying on your bed, or on the floor, is a good way to feel what's happening as you breathe. Some people DO see results after just a few weeks, as far as weight loss or inches. Others may not see changes in weight or inches for a month or even more. (But they can usually FEEL differences in other ways). So don't get discouraged if you don't measure changes right away. If you're working hard at doing Oxycise! and doing it very consistently, but still not seeing or feeling any positive changes, maybe evaluate your eating habits and see if you might be "undoing" your Oxycise! efforts by taking in too many calories. I hope this is helpful! Best of Luck! :-) Julie |

Julie,
I purchased the one for seniors. Will this give me enough work out to actualy loose weight? I'm about 75 lbs over weight. Actualy I'm pretty agil except for some major authoritise in my knees and feet. I refuse to give up as some of my friends have done. I've read quite a bit about this program and I believe it will help me alot. |

Cloma: you truly will lose weight. I have the Seniors as well, the Easy Does It Series, and they are great! I still can only do a few where one is to stand, but Easy Does It, Level 1 has two sitting ones.
I began around June 24 and lost 9 pounds by July 13. Am on a plateau right now and because of hurting myself, having some my O's for a week or so, but am back on it today! But I also cut down on my breads, sugars..and that also helped. keep on keepin on! |

I am sorry I misspoke!
Since starting I have lost 13 pounds as of today. Reason I said 9 pounds on other post is that was where I was around July 14th, but since then I have lost 4 more pounds. I think the not eating certain foods has helped. |

Annelouise: you are doing great! I'm proud of you. I haven't dropped poundage only inches, but I'm glade about the inches. I decided sinice I'm to start eating meating tomorrow, I'll do the meat thing once a week and see how that works out. I eat a lot of watermellon. I think the extra water from it helps a lot also.
have a blast of a day cathey |
